This autumn, Aalto University President’s Management Team (PMT) has decided to implement meeting remunerations for student representatives in administration. The decision will take effect on 1 Jan 2025. Aalto University Student Union (AYY) has actively advocated for rewarding student representatives and views this decision as a significant improvement.
‘The decision to pay the meeting remunerations is a strong expression of Aalto’s appreciation for the significant role our students play in the university’s decision-making process. I am pleased that the time and commitment our student representatives dedicate to the university’s development is being recognized better’, celebrates AYY Board Member Carl-Victor Schauman.
Meeting remunerations are paid for certain bodies defined in the bylaws, or similar bodies, to which the student union appoints representatives. These include the following: Academic Committees, Degree Programme and Doctoral Programme Committees, Academic Appeals Board, and Teaching Competence Assessment Committees.
The meeting remuneration is EUR 35 per meeting. For teaching competence assessments, the remuneration is paid per assessment. The remuneration is paid to ordinary members or deputy members substituting for ordinary members. However, the fee is not paid to individuals appointed due to their position, such as AYY board members and employees, nor to those pursuing doctoral degrees while employed by Aalto.
‘I want to thank Aalto for the smooth cooperation and the process through which our goal of meeting remunerations was achieved as quickly as it was. This is a significant achievement for students advocating on our behalf. I hope that the remuneration payment process is launched successfully, and that in the future, we can expand the fees to cover more student representatives’, praises Schauman.
