Finland not committed to students at all – good and bad of the Government Programme
We went through the Government Programme “A strong and committed Finland”. Students will be in for a rough ride in many sectors, but the programme also includes a few positive proposals.
AYY to oblige residents to take out home insurance
To protect the interests of residents, AYY will oblige its residents to take out home insurance in the future. A requirement for home insurance will be included in the new leases starting in the autumn.
Changes to AYY’s resident selection in the autumn
Changes will be made to the resident selection of Aalto University Student Union. The changes are related to the reform of housing regulations. We will provide more information on changes in the autumn once the systems have been tested and we can implement the changes.
Annual enrolment ends on 1st September - remember the health care fee
You can enrol for the academic year 2023–2024 and pay the membership fee of the Student Union until 1st September. A healthcare fee is paid separately to Kela, which entitles you to the FSHS services.

Developments in housing activities in 2023
AYY continuously develops its housing activities in order to respond to the needs of students as well as possible. At present, AYY’s targets for development include real estate services, consistency of reservations for common facilities and services, the selling of low demand housing, energy saving and making it easier to contact AYY.
Student housing must not be excluded from investment grants for special groups
Student housing construction and renovation are supported with investment grants for special groups provided by the Housing Fund of Finland. The proposal of the Ministry of Finance to exclude students from investment grants for special groups has been made on false grounds.
Tiina Pajukari and Ronja Mäkinen started as the new policy specialists
AYY has recruited two new policy specialists for the advocacy team: Tiina Pajukari and Ronja Mäkinen. Tiina Pajukari works as social policy and sustainable development specialist and Ronja Mäkinen as international affairs and equality specialist. Both policy specialists have a long history in the student movement.
