Parliamentary Elections 2023
Let’s make sure that education cuts will not be made again! No more cuts to the subsistence and well-being of students, education funding and the conditions of international students. We can all influence these issues by voting in the approaching parliamentary elections.
Regardless of domicile, every Finnish citizen who has reached the age of 18 not later than on the day of the election is entitled to vote.
If you still haven’t decided who to vote for, we recommend that you follow election panels and try out the election compass of Yle, for example. Let’s all participate in the queueing campaign on the first day of advance voting. Come and ask the candidates tricky questions at AYY’s election panel or chat with the candidates in AYY’s education policy croquet tournament.

Voting in overalls or student jacket!
The student organisations in the Capital Region will go out together to vote on the first day of advance voting on 22nd of March from 11 am onwards!
How to prepare? Select your candidate and take your ID or passport with you! If you want, you can wear student overalls or other student clothing, but you are also welcome to come as you are.
Where and how? We are gathering in the Little Parliament Park (near the Parliament Building, Arkadiankatu 3) between 11–12 and forming as long a line of voters as possible, then heading to the Visitors’ Centre (Kansalaisinfo) at the Little Parliament to vote.
Why? To show that students are powerful and that we are interested in making a difference! There will be an overall patch giveaway and a fun atmosphere. Come along and use your vote with the student unions!
Other information: Everyone must be allowed to vote at the advance polling station in peace. No party, candidate or campaign may be advertised at or near the polling station.
Any questions? Please contact your student union or HYY’s Parliamentary Election Coordinator Tekla: [email protected] / 050 477 5561

AYY will host an education policy croquet tournament in Otaniemi from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm on Thursday 23 March! Students and parliamentary election candidates will meet in Otaniemi to play croquet and discuss burning issues. The purpose of the event is to offer voters the opportunity to discuss with parliamentary election candidates and to give candidates valuable insight into matters that are important to students and therefore worth promoting.
So, wear your overalls or jacket and come and talk with candidates in the electrified atmosphere of the election spring!
You are also welcome to attend the event without registration.
On election day the polling stations are open between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Voters may cast their votes at the polling station stated in the voting register and on the card sent to them before the elections.
