You can apply for AYY housing in the Domo system.
The processing of AYY housing applications and resident selection are based on regulations provided by law and authorities regarding the resident selection for ARAVA rental housing. You can apply for AYY housing once your place of study has been confirmed, and provided that your studies at Aalto University are full-time, lead to a degree, and are eligible for student financial aid.
Degree students can apply for housing no earlier than six months before they need the apartment.
AYY is unable to provide an estimate regarding the timing or likelihood of receiving a housing offer.
The most common request for additional information concerns a missing attachment or request to update profile information on Domo. Your application will be activated once you have submitted all the required attachments.
If you do not wish to accept an apartment offered to you, please reject the offer as soon as possible so that it can be immediately offered to the next one. If you reject the offer or let it expire, your application will no longer be considered urgent. When rejecting an offer, be aware that it can take a long time to get another housing offer.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you can accept the offer via email. We are not responsible for situations where the applicant has not responded to a housing offer due to the message being redirected to the spam folder, for example. So keep your contact details and your preferred move-in date in your application up to date.
The move-in date is the start date of the lease, except when it coincides with a weekend or holiday. In such cases, the move-in date is the next business day following the start date of the lease. You can pick up the keys from our services office (Otakaari 25, Espoo) no earlier than the first weekday of the month between 12-16.

If you lost your keys, report the lost keys using this form.
The cost of making a new key will be charged for the lost key.
Those admitted to Aalto University bachelor’s and master’s programmes will receive a total of five years of right of residence. Those admitted only to a master’s programme are granted a right of residence for two years. The right of residence begins upon a student’s first enrollment at Aalto University and is determined by the target time for completing the degree, rather than the study right period. If you continue your studies at Aalto, this will not automatically extend your right of residence. However, if you live in East-Helsinki you can ask about a possibility to continue living in your apartment from housing services.
If you enrol for non-attendance, you will unfortunately not be able to continue living in your apartment. You can keep the apartment during your absence only if your household includes children or if you are leaving to perform military service or voluntary military service while still studying. Always remember to notify AYY if you enrol for non-attendance.
You can terminate your lease on Domo. The notice period is always a full calendar month. The notice period is calculated from the last day of the calendar month during which you have terminated your lease. For example, if you terminate your lease on 14 September, your lease will expire on 31 October.
The rental agreement can only be terminated once it has entered into force.
AYY must comply with the one-month notice period entered in the rental agreement. A one-month notice period is based on the Act on Residential Leases and, in practice, it is the shortest time period in which AYY can ensure that renting the apartment to the next student can be done without a vacant period. Unused apartments result in a loss of rents, which in turn increases the rents of all other AYY tenants. AYY’s other tenants should not be made to bear the risk of us being flexible. To ensure equal treatment, we have to comply with the one-month notice period, even if it may seem unfair for an individual student.
If you already have a notice of termination on Domo, you can create a new notice of termination for an earlier date only after you have accepted the first notice of termination.
First, approach your neighbours by talking to them. Your neighbour may not be aware of your experience. We encourage you to listen to your neighbour’s point of view even if you do not share the same perspective on the situation. You can agree not to agree. If the situation is not resolved despite the discussion, you can contact AYY.
