Monday, 2 Sept, is the year’s biggest moving day for AYY student housing as the new academic year is starting! On the moving day, an estimated 300-400 movers will visit the service office, which is why we will only serve customers with moving-related issues. Housing service points will be open on the moving day from 12 noon to 16.00. For all other issues, please reach us via email [email protected] or phone.

The AYY service office entrance is located in the upper yard, and the doors will open at 12 noon. We serve customers with queue numbers at four service points. For those waiting in a queue, we’ll offer activities and a raffle where you can win used household appliances and dishware. Dishware and household appliances are donated by ACRE. Some AYY board members can be met in the upper yard.

The moving day will be very busy, so be prepared to queue for the keys. We at AYY aim to serve you efficiently and will provide contact details for any other inquiries.

Here is a list of tips for the moving day:

  • Moving days can be very busy, so arrive early and be prepared to queue.
  • Bring something to eat and drink.
  • Wear comfortable clothes and gear suited to the weather.
  • Keep your documents ready. Make sure that all documents related to the rental agreement are in order and readily available if needed.
  • If someone else will be picking up the keys for you, either send a power of attorney in advance to [email protected] or ensure they have a printed copy when picking up the keys.
  • Remember to bring your ID to ensure the keys can be handed over.

Good news for residents in shared apartments: Here’s how you can receive your own housing allowance while living in a friends’ apartment!

A joint liability rental agreement may affect the housing allowance, as Kela typically grants only one housing allowance for a shared household, which is influenced by the income of both residents. However, residents in friends’ apartments may receive separate housing allowances if Kela reviews them as separate households. This requires tenants with a joint liability rental agreement to draft a mutual possession agreement for the apartment and submit it as an appendix with their housing allowance application to Kela. Tenants draft the possession agreement by themselves.
