Museum Committee

The Museum Committee is responsible for maintaining, presenting and developing the Polytech Museum, established in 1958, and its activities. The committee members keep the museum open on Sundays, participate in the planning and implementation of changing exhibitions and take care of the cleanliness and order of the museum. The amount of work varies depending on duties but can always be negotiated.

The Museum Committee is led by the intendant who is usually raised in the committee and appointed for a year at a time.

The term of the committee member is 2+1 – in this position we value experience and continuous accumulation of knowledge as much as enthusiasm and practical skills. This position covers several fields and various skills can find their place in this committee.

The Museum Committee has a continuous application throughout the year.

The museum guides act as their own separate and very liberal group. All are welcome to become a guide and guide the museum tours at suitable times (more information from the museum director). There is no separate application period for the guides, you can always join the team and training is always provided.

If you are interested in history, you can explore the history of our university and the student union in the Museum Committee on a much deeper level than regular engineering students. The museum is led by a very engineering-oriented humanist and the student intendant, so you can freely pursue your own ideas at the museum, as the museum itself is not preserved. As the museum guide, you will always meet new freshmen who participate in the tours if you do not have any other contact with the freshmen. On the other hand, you will also meet older folk as the museum guide and hear interesting stories from decades ago.

Erik, a long-term volunteer in various museum activities

The unfortunate museum has been constantly renovated for years, so the committee is always happy to have new people with ideas who creatively plan the museum space and have construction skills. The museum premises change depending on the exhibition and the museum is being developed. Exhibitions are renewed and changed quite regularly and the exhibitions of various parties are assisted and supported. The museum aims at reflecting the modern day and its makers, being far away from a dusty mausoleum.
